Linking Clients to Companies
Connecting clients to their companies helps you see the full picture of your organizational relationships. This guide covers how to link, unlink, and manage client-company associations.
Why Link Clients to Companies?
Linking provides:
- 📊 Organizational overview — See all work for a company
- 👥 Team visibility — Know who's who at each company
- 📈 Better reporting — Aggregate data by company
- 🔗 Relationship context — Understand client connections
Linking When Creating a Client
The easiest way to link is during client creation:
- Click + Add Client
- Fill in client details
- In the Company field, start typing
- Select the company from dropdown
- Save the client
If the company doesn't exist:
- Click + Create "[Company Name]"
- Enter quick company details
- Save both records
Linking an Existing Client
To add a company association to an existing client:
- Open the client record
- Click Edit
- Find the Company field
- Search for and select the company
- Click Save
Quick Link
Some views allow quick linking:
- In the clients list, find the Company column
- Click the empty cell or current company
- Select a new company
- Change saves automatically
Linking Multiple Clients to a Company
When you need to associate many clients with a company:
Bulk Assignment
- Go to CRM → Clients
- Select multiple clients using checkboxes
- Click Bulk Actions
- Choose Assign Company
- Select the target company
- Confirm
From Company View
- Open the company record
- Go to the Clients tab
- Click + Add Existing Client
- Search for clients to add
- Select and confirm
Viewing Company Clients
To see all clients associated with a company:
- Open the company record
- Click the Clients tab
- View the list of associated clients
From here you can:
- Open any client record
- Add new clients
- Remove associations
- Export the list
Changing a Client's Company
To move a client to a different company:
- Open the client record
- Click Edit
- Clear the current company
- Select the new company
- Save
This changes the association only. Projects and files retain their original company links unless explicitly changed.
Removing a Company Link
To unlink a client from a company without deleting either:
- Open the client record
- Click Edit
- Clear the Company field
- Save
The client becomes unassociated but both records remain intact.
Primary Contact
Designate a primary contact for each company:
- Open the company record
- Go to Clients tab
- Find the primary contact
- Click the ⭐ star icon
The primary contact:
- Appears first in lists
- Is highlighted in the company header
- May receive default communications
Client Roles at Companies
Define each client's role within their company:
- Open the client record
- Find Role or Title field
- Enter their position (CEO, Marketing Director, etc.)
- Save
Roles help you:
- Identify decision-makers
- Route communications appropriately
- Understand organizational structure
Troubleshooting
Client shows wrong company
- Open the client record
- Verify the Company field shows the correct company
- If wrong, edit and correct
Client doesn't appear in company's client list
- Ensure the client is linked (check client record)
- Refresh the company page
- Check filters (archived clients may be hidden)
Can't find company when linking
- The company may not exist — create it first
- Try different search terms
- Check for typos in company name
